Apply now to be part of the Darwin Fringe 2027 program. This application is for shows being presented in any venue around town – think parks, backyards, sheds or even toilets.

Although our program is open access we will not accept events or shows that:

Aren’t safe (emotionally or physically)

Any major party or gig events on the Opening Night of Friday 16 or Closing Night Party on Saturday 24 (this condition does not include shows – feel free to ask us more about this as there are circumstances that we will accept)

Don’t fit with the Fringe mission or vision

Doesn’t align with our No TRAASH Policy

TECHNICAL, PRODUCER & MARKETING WORKSHOPS
We will be running a free Technical, Producing and Marketing Workshops on Saturday March 13th, 2027. All successful Fringe applicants will be invited and strongly encouraged to attend this day as it will help you build confidence and understanding that’ll improve the whole experience for not only yourself, but your team. The workshops will give you access to free resources and templates as well as LOTS of industry knowledge. The session is also a great refresher even for those who have presented shows or performed with Fringe before. Final details about the workshops will be shared with successful participants in late January. We assume the workshop will go for 6-7 hours, will be held at Brown’s Mart and we’ll provide light catering.

WE RECOMMEND | Some tips for completing your application:

Read through all application questions and copy them into another document. Then fill out your answers in that document before copying them back into this form. That way you don’t lose what you’ve written.

Please keep in mind that the Fringe office will be closed for an end of year break from December 21 – December 31 2026. We will be in the office on Friday January 1 2027 with the priority to answer any last minute questions.

This includes but is not limited to artworks, education, rituals, traditional songs etc. We are developing a Policy to handle cultural appropriation and Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) that will become available in early 2027.

Fringe prioritises elevating the voices of First People’s and Culturally Diverse communities and is only interested in supporting works that take great care and follow legal and cultural protocol when including cultures that are not our own.

If you intend to work with ICIP you can read Protocols for using First Nations cultural and intellectual property in the arts developed by Dr Terri Janke for Creative Australia here. Other cultures will have their own protocols that are unique to their communities and you will be expected to do your own research.

Answering this question helps us to track and assure that we are properly delivering on our curatorial priorities whilst protecting ICIP and are able to minimise the possibility of platforming culturally inappropriate works. By selecting one of the first two options we will simply check in with you about your process and in the instance that we are concerned that the correct steps of respect are not being taken your show may not be offered a spot or may be removed from the program. If you are a member of the community whose culture you intend to explore than no further questions will be asked.

Please remember that we will not promote events that fall outside of our festival dates. Our 2027 festival dates are 16-25 of July.

PLEASE NOTE that we are happy to list exhibitions that open within/before the festival but close afterwards. We will however only advertise on the website and in the program the event for days in which it happens during the festival. We can help to promote additional dates wherever possible.

PLEASE NOTE that we are reluctant to program any major party or gig events on the Opening Night of Friday 16 or Closing Night Party on Saturday 24 from 10pm (this condition does not include shows – feel free to ask us more about this).

Ticketing

As mentioned in the artist pack, we recommend budgeting your show at 30% of ticket sales as this will keep you safe financially. Keep these numbers in mind when thinking of audiences and the space you work with. Don’t forget that we charge an inside ticketing fee. Rates can be found on page 12 of the Artist Pack.

You can list only one price if you want. You will also be able to request promo codes or specials sales through the final marketing form at a later date.

Not sure how much to charge? Check out page 16 of our Artist Pack for tips on how to approach budgeting your show. That way you have the best chance to come out on top. FYI the average ticket price in 2026 was around $20 – $25.

Darwin Fringe believes that parents and guardians are the best judge of what is suitable for their children. This is where transparent content warnings will also assist you to build trust with your audiences.

In some instances Darwin Fringe might provide recommendations or suggestions if we are concerned about the information you have provided.

Please consider that exposing underage people to inappropriate, offensive or harmful content may breach the law as a form of child abuse and Darwin Fringe does not tolerate this behavior.

Marketing Image with no text(Required)

Please provide an image to accompany your event listings in our printed program and on our website. This is NOT the last time that you can supply this content, successful applicants will have another chance to submit a final image so if you have a future photoshoot planned that’s fine, you can submit something temporary. Final images are due March 21st in order to be included in the print program.

– AI Generated images will not be accepted as Darwin Fringe will be releasing an ethical AI Policy in the coming months that prohibits this content when used to promote Darwin Fringe shows unless under specific circumstances. This decision is being made out of respect to the creatives whose work was stolen to create the software. We’re happy to provide tips on free alternate options. Use of generative AI is also a social and reputational risk that will impact your ticket sales.

The winner of this award will receive cash and resourcing support to present their show at the 2028 Adelaide Fringe from mid February to mid March – dates to be announced. The winner of this award will still be required to produce the Adelaide season by booking a venue etc, you will simply receive extra support from the Adelaide Fringe team to make this happen. The winner will be announced at the 2027 Award Ceremony Sunday 25.

The winner of this award will receive support and resourcing to present their show through a tailored tour in 2028 with dates and locations to be chosen through negotiation with Artback NT. The winner will be announced at the 2027 Award Ceremony Sunday 25.

I understand that if I accept an offer for the 2027 Darwin Fringe Festival that there will be a cancellation fee of $200 associated with the withdrawal of my event, this fee can be appealed in the circumstance of injury, emergency etc.
