Tunes and shanty session with the Top End Folk Club and Darwin
MUSIC
Heave away your woes and let our crew lead you in a good old-fashioned singalong with a bunch of instrumental folk tunes drawn from the Celtic traditions thrown in. Tunes will be led by members of the Top End Folk Club so dust off your old guitar, fiddle, banjo, or flute and join us for a for a few beers (or not, we don’t judge), a lot of laughs, and a whole mess of sea songs and tunes.
We’re very friendly (we promise) so leave your hesitations at the door, don your pirate attire if you so desire, and join Captain Jazz, the Folk Club, and friends for an hour of irreverent, passionate and (un)surprisingly heart-warming fun. The more frivolity and enthusiasm the better!
No singing experience necessary, all instruments and playing levels welcome.
Friends and family encouraged, children welcome.
About the collective
The Top End Folk Club is based in Darwin and hosts monthly tunes sessions and workshops, and with the newly reformed Alice Springs Folk Club, co-hosts the Top Half Folk Festival. The Top End Folk Club has been performing and promoting folk music in Darwin and surrounds since 1971, aiming to promote and encourage the knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of traditional and contemporary folk music, song, verse, dancing, craft and lore.
The Darwin Shanty Club, led with aplomb by Captain Jazz, has made a more recent splash, attracting a loyal and enthusiastic crew ready to heave away your woes in a good old-fashioned singalong at the drop of a (tricorne) hat.
