Puke, Pray, Laugh : Ayahuasca Clown Apocalypse
SPOKEN WORD & IDEAS
For thirteen years I was a depressed, self-destructive, award-winning professional standup comedian, touring Australia, UK and the world. Then I drank Ayahuasca, had a spiritual awakening and quit comedy, embarking on a seven year healing journey that took me to the very edge of my being. During this time I did Earthquake relief, helped dying homeless people in a Kolkata ghetto hospice and then began training and working as an underground psychedelic plant medicine facilitator, guiding 2000 + experiences over the next seven years with Ayahuasca, Kambo and Iboga, working with a wide range of people from doctors to busdrivers, lawyers to cops.
In 2023 my medicine path came to an end and I was directed by the spirits to go back to standup comedy and write a show about it all.
This is it.
This show is an unfiltered take on mental illness, psychedelics, the healing journey and what the hell is going on in this crazy world right now, from the perspective of a wounded-comedian-turned-healer.
‘A bittersweet mix of enjoyment, uncontrollable laughter and bewilderment.’ Chortle
‘Unorthodox genius’ Guardian.
‘If you didn’t like Nick Sun, you sucked as an audience.’ Doug Stanhope
About the artist
Nick Sun began comedy in 2003, winning both Nationwide JJJ RAW Comedy and the UK’s So You Think You’re Funny competition in 2004, a feat unheard of. He has performed in Australia, UK, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Asia and America, appearing at festivals and on television and winning some prestigious awards along the way.
He is well respected by his peers, having supported such luminaries as Doug Stanhope and Marc Maron.
Nick’s comedy is described as intelligent, unfiltered, unconventional and with a unique worldview.
In 2015 his life took an abrupt left turn. He drank Ayahuasca, had a spiritual awakening and spent the next seven years on the healing path, training and working as a psychedelic plant medicine shaman, before deciding to stop in late 2023, in order to write a show about it all.
