THEATRE
Mad Are We is a new theatre work, currently in development. It blends live performance with soundscape to explore autistic female experience in the context of a coming of age queer love story.
When teenage Imogen meets Sabrina, she experiences true friendship for the first time. Slowly the mask Imogen has created for herself begins to peel away and her authentic self emerges. Mad are We is a story about first connection, first love and first loss.
Developed as part of the Browns Mart Build Up program and with support from City of Darwin, Mad Are We traverses the intersection of autistic and queer experience – exploring the acute sense of alienation and loneliness created by sensory and communication challenges, alongside the potential this experience holds for deep intimacy.
Written by Zan Kershaw, Directed by Rebecca Parker with Dramaturgy by Ciella Williams.
