2025 DARWIN FRINGE HUB APPLICATION

Apply now to be part of the Darwin Fringe 2025 Hub program and present your work in Brown’s Mart Theatre, Brown’s Mart Studio, Brown’s Mart Courtyard, Civic Park, Darwin Entertainment Centre and Dom’s Bar & Lounge. These venues are subsidised by the Fringe and are curated – meaning we want to hear about your great art and unique voice before programming.

Aren’t safe (emotionally or physically)

Directly compete with existing festival events or core programming

Don’t fit with the Fringe mission or vision

Doesn’t align with our No TRAASH Policy

TECHNICAL & PRODUCER WORKSHOP ~ NEW
We will be running a free Technical and Producing Introduction Workshop on Saturday March 15th, 2025. All successful Fringe applicants will be invited and strongly encouraged to attend this day as it will help you prepare and communicate your needs with our team. The workshops will give you access to free resources and templates as well as LOTS of industry knowledge. Final details about the workshops will be shared with successful participants in January.

WE RECOMMEND | Some tips for completing your application:

Read through all application questions and copy them into another document. Then fill out your answers in that document before copying them back into this form. That way you don’t lose what you’ve written.

Make sure you’ve read the Hub Section of our Artist Pack for our application criteria before applying.

Reasons to ask for a fee waive might include being unwaged, working part time/ casual, being on a pension, offering a free show, or demonstrating strong artistic merit. We don’t want a little thing like Rego fees ruining your Darwin Fringe dreams! There is room to pitch your case below.

Would you be interested in working with an Auslan Interpreter for this show?(Required)

We are applying for funding to specifically cover the fees to have a show interpreted in Auslan. If we receive this funding we will ask the Deaf community to vote on which show they would like to see and we’ll pick based on People’s Choice. To have your show included on this list select yes below.

In order to engage with this opportunity you will need to supply a copy of the script at least 2 weeks before the show begins and will have to be available to meet with the interpreter to discuss the work etc. This will probably be done over zoom as they might not live here. We would cover the fees associated with engaging the interpreter and will offer additional rehearsal opportunities at no extra charge.

How long does your event, show or experience go for? Shows in the hub generally get 60 minutes to present with 20 minutes to bump in and 20 minutes to bump out.

All slots are for one hour shows only unless specified. They all come with 20 minutes of bump in and 20 minutes of bump out time. These are not the final performance times or slots. Select days that you would like to perform your work. Our Hub seasons are usually maximum 2 days for local shows and 3 for travelling however we are happy to negotiate individual deals depending on your needs.

If you are doing a performance or creating an experience in the Courtyard or Civic Park then there are less restrictions around time length so again chat to us about your needs.

Please let us know if you’re going out of town, have work booked or won’t be available on any particular day or time. Yes, it can be hard to know this far in advance but any information you have will help.

Ticketing

As mentioned in the artist pack, we recommend budgeting your show at 30% of ticket sales as this will keep you safe financially. Keep these numbers in mind when thinking of audiences and the space you work with. Don’t forget that we charge an inside ticketing fee. Rates can be found on page 12 of the Artist Pack.

You can list only one price if you want. You will also be able to request promo codes or specials sales through the final marketing form at a later date.

Not sure how much to charge? Check out page 16 of our Artist Pack for tips on how to approach budgeting your show. That way you have the best chance to come out on top. FYI the average ticket price in 2024 was around $20.

I understand that if I accept an offer for the 2025 Darwin Fringe Festival that there will be a cancellation fee of $350 associated with the withdrawal of my event, this fee can be appealed in the circumstance of injury, emergency etc.
