Allow yourself to enter the poet’s mind as she muses on daily life, travels through nature, chasing desire, finding love, and her quest for wholeness. Inspired by spoken word, jazz and performance poetry, Sophie Benkemoun performs original haiku, contemporary poetry, and prose from her original pocketbook publications to an instrumental soundscape. ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Sophie Benkemoun took to the road from Victoria with her family in 2016, stopped in Darwin, and never left. In the early 90s she was part of the Melbourne performance and slam poetry scene and has busked and performed in other places over the years including local venues such as Dom’s Bar, Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival, and Darwin Railway Club with Darwin Musical Theatre (Cabaret at the Railway). Her poetry and stories have been published in zines, journals, and anthologies, and in 2024 her poetry collection futurespective was shortlisted for the Chief Minister’s NT Book Awards.
