Shalom Kaa
Shalom Kaa is one of Darwin’s most recognisable performers — a singer, actor, comedian, director and storyteller who has spent more than 40 years on stage making audiences laugh, cry and occasionally gasp. Known for his fearless honesty and big voice, Shalom blends cabaret, comedy and theatre into performances that are both deeply personal and wildly entertaining.
His acclaimed autobiographical show Purple Plastic Māori has sold out seasons at Darwin Fringe and Darwin Festival, cementing his reputation as one of the Territory’s most distinctive theatrical voices.
A four-time Darwin Fringe award winner, Shalom has received the Super Producer Award (2019) and People’s Choice Award (2019), the Darwin Festival Pomelo Award (2024), and the Spirit of the Fringe Award.
Offstage he’s a passionate mentor, MC and creative instigator within the Darwin arts community.
Whether through song, story or razor-sharp humour, Shalom creates unforgettable nights of theatre that celebrate identity, resilience and the joy of live performance.
