Whilst some mothers renovate bathrooms – equipped with heated towel racks,
And others repaint their houses – with pretty pastel palettes,
MariTrees found herself – compelled to build a nest,
With songs she’d studied, thrashed and hammered – and put them to the test.

Having cut her jazz teeth, honed her chops – on a long-term Sunday residency,
The beach side gig drew crowds of yore – and young who sang in the key of C,
But as jazz cats are prone to stray – And with a baby on the way,
The only next logical thing to do – would be to tie it all up as a Fringe show!

Mari-Trees (MT) is a multi-instrumentalist, Adelaide Fringe Award winning musician.
Born to a social activist opera junky and a concert pianist, she decided early on to do whatever it takes to stop Gilbert & Sullivan permeating her brain, trying very hard to not become a musician.
However, fate would have it that pianos continued to fall in front of her – She’s lucky to be alive!
Having escaped to remote regions of the world to steep deep into the musical traditions of West Africa, West Coast Ireland and the West Wing of the Elder Con jazz school, MT continues to be obsessed with alliteration, and with the nuts and bolts of music; writing, and recreating in blues, soul, folk and world music genres.
Through piano, percussion, guitar, ukulele, vocals and found objects, MT delivers a raw sound that is compelling and original.

Always Was, Always will be

Darwin Fringe acknowledges the Kulumbirigin Danggalaba, the Larrakia as the Traditional Owners of Garramilla the land on which we create, play and love.

We recognise your continued connection with the land, water and skies, and pay our respects to your ancestors, elders and community. We extend this respect to all Aboriginal, Torres Strait Island and First Nations people. You are the original artists and creators. We stand in solidarity with your fight for sovereignty and understand that colonisation is ongoing. We at Fringe know that we always have more to learn and do.
