SUMMARY:Workshop: How to review live performance
DESCRIPTION:Writing about theatre is not simply about deciding whether a production was “good” or “bad”\, but about learning how to observe performance with clarity\, curiosity\, and context. This workshop explores the craft of theatre reviewing through structure\, voice\, analysis\, and ethics\, helping participants develop the confidence to respond thoughtfully to live performance. From acting and direction to design\, atmosphere\, and audience experience\, we will examine how strong reviews balance critical insight with fairness\, while also exploring participants’ distinctive writing style that captures the energy and immediacy of theatre itself. \n\n\nABOUT THE PRESENTER \nFrom his teenage years writing plays to his adult life writing reviews\, plays\, speeches\, interviews\, reports\, journals\, books\, editing\, teaching\, and publishing\, Geoffrey has always loved working with words. \nGeoffrey is a theatre reviewer and feature writer for Stage Whispers\, a role he has had for over 17 years\, and he was a film reviewer for the West Australian Newspaper Group\, reviewing a film a week for six years. His other roles included Founding Arts Editor for ‘Brother/Sister’ and Founding Editor of ‘The Pink Broad’\, while his monthly micro-magazine ‘homo’\, published in Sydney\, Australia\, enjoyed a life of eleven editions. Geoffrey is also currently the Founder and Publishing Curator of thesolotraveller.com.au\, an online portal dedicated to empowering independent travellers around the world. \nTwo of his plays – ‘Maestro’ and ‘Memories\, Melodies and Madness’ – enjoyed world premiere seasons in London\, before their respective seasons in Melbourne\, Australia. His play\, ‘The World … According to Timothy Cross'\, enjoyed a sell-out world premiere season in Melbourne. \n\n\nPRODUCTION NOTES\nDuration: 2 hours \nContent warnings: Adult themes \nAccess: \n\nLicensed Venue\nWheelchair Accessible\nAccessible by public transport\nVarious forms of contact accepted (written\, verbal etc) for complaints and bookings.\nA quiet space is available\nAssistance dogs welcome\nSeating options are available\nCar park suitable for wheelchair transportation available within 2 minutes of the venue entrance.\nGender neutral toilets available\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW
