Big Love ! Big Dreams ! Big Hopes ! Big Hair !
Come on a musical adventure. It’s like Russia with a 60’s twist, where you can laugh, tap your feet and sing out loud.
An outrageous story of Sveta, a Russian immigrant who comes to Australia in search of love.
She disappeared when COVID hit.
Where has she been? Has she met an old croc? How many dates has she had? She’s older but is she wiser? Has she finally stopped searching?
She shares her experiences, making the journey from her hometown in rural Russia to Darwin. It’s a story that takes the audience on an adventure and challenges them to learn a few Russian words and take a little of the Sveta Russian spirit and passion home with them.
‘Sickle’ is the creation of Swetlana Jankowiak, whose journey of self-discovery as she learned about her Russian heritage living in the Western suburbs of Adelaide, was the inspiration for the character of Sveta. Her Russian mother and Ukrainian father, met in a German war camp and migrated to Australia in 1947.
Although her professional journey took Swetlana into the field of welfare and education, her life-long passion has been to perform.
The show is a tribute to her Russian heritage.
After moving to Darwin in late 2018, Swetlana is now bringing Sveta’s sense of fun to the Fringe to share some of her irrepressible Russian spirit, a few songs and plenty of laughs!
